Stellar career ahead at the casino

Loyola Catholic Trade Training Centre Mt Druitt, students.

LOYOLA Catholic Trade Training Centre students, Mt Druitt have the chance to pursue a career in the kitchen at The Star Sydney through a school based apprenticeship in commercial cookery.

The ‘stellar’ opportunity is a great example of learning at Loyola and McCarthy Catholic Trade Training Centres which will become part of CathWest Innovation College from 2020.

By the end of their HSC year, the skilled-up students will complete stage one of a Certificate III in commercial cookery. They will also complete a minimum of 100 days of paid work over two years, while attending training and study at school each week.

The four year apprenticeship continues for two years after the HSC and is aimed at preparing the students for full-time work.

It also means the students can complete their HSC without exams.

Students Lucas Hobbs, Myia Vendrasco, Juliette Mitchell, Kaleb Mealamu and Felicity Mayer have signed up for the course.
